Scooter rider struck by vehicle in Mission Hill

A scooter rider was hospitalized Wednesday after being struck by a vehicle in Mission Hill, according to police.

Around 5:40 a.m., Boston police responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle near 1467 Tremont St. in Mission Hill, police said.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers observed a man with an apparent head injury and blood on his forehead being treated by EMS, police said. The victim, whose name has not yet been released, was transported to Brigham and Women’s Hospital for treatment.

The driver, whose name has not yet been released, told police he had the green light on Tremont Street when the scooter rider traveled from Parker Street and came in front of his Grey Toyota Camry. However, a video obtained from a witness showed that the suspect ran a red light, police said. The driver was cited, according to police.

The accident occurred near where Louisa Gag,  a city transportation planner and prominent bicycle safety advocate, was fatally struck by a car while biking in July. Gag’s death led to thousands of people signing an open letter to Mayor Michelle Wu asking for street safety improvements.
