An ordinary Monday spent doing the laundry and taking out the bins has taken an extraordinary turn for one Adelaide grandmother, who discovered she had won more than $1.1 million.
The Woodville woman scored the Keno Spot 10 jackpot in draw 260914 470 on Monday, September 14, taking home $1,165,947.
She was midway through household chores and thinking about what to make for dinner when she received the life-changing phone call.
“I’ve been dreaming of this call forever! I cannot believe this,” she said.
“We’re just about retired but haven’t been able to fully do it yet. Now we can!”
The grandmother said the timing of the call made the moment even more surreal.
“I’m sitting here doing a few little things like the laundry and taking the bins out. Who would’ve thought I’d get a call like this right now?”
Dinner plans were quickly abandoned.
“I was also just thinking about what we’d cook for dinner but cancel that! I’m not cooking anything tonight,” she said.
“Is it too early to crack the champagne?”
The winner said the windfall would allow her and her husband to properly retire, while also giving them the opportunity to help their children and grandchildren.
“We’ve also got a big family of children and grandchildren. It’ll help them as well,” she said.
She planned to keep the news from her husband until he returned home, joking that telling him over the phone might make him “topple over”.
The winning ticket was purchased from Numero 5 Cafe at 52 Trimmer Parade, Woodville.
To win a Keno Spot 10 prize, players must match all 10 numbers selected on their ticket with numbers among the 20 drawn from a possible 80.
