Former Union Minister and Congress leader P Chidambaram hit back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Naraaz Fufa” remark for the Opposition, saying he was “happy” that he was not a “Bewakoof Naxal” but a “Dimagi Naxal”.
Chidambaram said Modi was a self-confessed poet who writes poetry in Gujarati and “coins these words in Gujarati and translates them into English”.
“I read the translation into English, but this is his way,” Chidambaram said, referring to Modi’s remarks.
Recalling Modi’s “acche din aane wale hain” slogan, Chidambaram said he had counted the slogans coined by the Prime Minister and believed there were “something like 20-25 slogans” in the last 12 years.
“The latest two are the ‘Dimagi Naxal’ and ‘Naraaz Fufa’… Tomorrow, he will say something. At the BRICS Summit, he will say something. But these are meaningless,” Chidambaram said.
He added that he had been told Gen Z had made “a lot of memes” on “Naraaz Fufa” and “Dimagi Naxal”.
“When I tweeted that I’m proud to be a Dimagi Naxal, the likes were 5.5 million. I don’t know whether all of them claim to be Dimagi Naxals, but at least a substantial number of them liked the tweet, which means they are also Dimagi Naxals,” he said.
PM STEPS UP NARAAZ FUFA JIBE
Stepping up his attack on the Opposition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday doubled down on his epithet for those who question his government’s development record: naraaz fufa ji, or angry uncle.
PM Modi made the remarks at the NaMo for Viksit Bharat event in Gujarat’s Vadodara, where he inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for development projects worth Rs 35,000 crore. The projects include a 2,800-kilometre dedicated rail freight corridor, which he called a “historic achievement of the 21st century”.
Using the corridor to contrast the “work culture” of the BJP and Congress governments, PM Modi said the project was conceived under former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee but made little progress during the UPA government led by Manmohan Singh.
“The freight corridor project was conceived in 2004 but nothing moved till BJP came to power in 2014,” he said.
Without naming anyone, the Prime Minister then took a dig at naysayers who would question the utility of the project. “One naaraaz fufa ji will be crying out, ‘What will the truck drivers do?’ Uncle Ji now has work,” he jibed.
