Sonam Kapoor is one celebrity who has always championed Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla. To commemorate its 40th anniversary, the designers behind the famous label Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, hosted a fashion show with former and current supermodels wearing some of their most archival, iconic creations from over the decades at their new flagship store in South Mumbai called Mubarak Baug. In attendance were their loyal patrons from the world of Bollywood and fashion, whom they have amassed. Sonam Kapoor, too, made an appearance in a custom look from AJSK.

For the occasion, Kapoor wore an angrakha style anarkali with 48 kalis or panels, embroidered in entirety with chikankari—a craft technique that the duo famously restored almost 35 years ago. The look was made by craftswomen in the label’s Lucknow factory over 20 months. The ensemble features once-forgotten stitches of chikankari in jaali motifs, large borders and tassels, further embellished with pearls, crystals and sequins. Kapoor recreated her look from Anshula Kapoor’s pre-wedding ceremony where she styled two dupattas with her crushed silk anarkali from Itrh, with two completely different styles of chikankari dupattas with tassel detailing.
Chikankari was not limited to just clothes. Kapoor accessorised with a pair of heart-shaped diamond earrings from the label’s limited jewellery offering, detailed with paisley and botanical designs that are a mainstay in the traditional embroidery technique. The earrings with pearl tassels were also styled with pearl kaan chains for a complete look. While Kapoor’s look was an epitome of grandiosity, her makeup and hair style were simple, with a vintage appeal to them.
