Building Influence Through People, Purpose and Opportunity

Building Influence Through People, Purpose and Opportunity

In a world where personal branding can easily become about visibility, numbers and carefully curated perfection, Karima Farid has taken a different approach. For her, influence is less about being seen and more about what becomes possible when people, ideas and opportunities come together with purpose.

An Omani communicator, strategist, storyteller and mother, Karima’s professional and personal worlds are shaped by a common thread: people. She has a natural instinct for recognising potential, understanding what people need and seeing how the right opportunity, introduction or idea can help move someone forward.

Perhaps that instinct started much earlier than her professional career.

The Big Sister Who Learned to Look Out for Others

Being the eldest sister meant learning responsibility at an early age.

There was an expectation—sometimes spoken and sometimes simply understood—to look out for others, help, guide and take responsibility. Over time, that became more than a role within the family. It became part of how Karima naturally sees the world.

She notices people.

She notices what they need, what they might be capable of, and where a little encouragement or the right opportunity could make a difference.

That instinct has followed her throughout her career.

Seeing the Map Between A and B

Karima’s professional journey has centred on communication, but her approach goes beyond delivering messages.

She thinks in pathways.

Where are we now? Where are we trying to get to? What sits between A and B? What needs to happen along the way? Who or what could help move things forward?

This way of thinking has shaped her work across communications, employee experience, storytelling, branding, campaigns and initiatives designed to create opportunities and bring people together.

One area particularly close to her is supporting SMEs and small businesses, as well as promoting emerging talent. Karima understands that sometimes people and businesses do not need another barrier—they need visibility, an introduction, a platform, a connection to the right person or simply someone willing to open a door.

For her, this is where communication and strategy meet.

It is about seeing possibilities that may not be immediately obvious and finding ways to turn them into something tangible.

Sometimes that means bringing two people together. Sometimes it means giving a small business greater visibility, creating a platform for talent, introducing an idea to the right audience or helping someone see a route they had not considered.

At the heart of it is purpose.

People First, But With Direction

Being people-centred, for Karima, is not simply about caring about people. It is about believing in their potential.

She is naturally drawn to people who are building something, developing an idea, growing a business or trying to find their next opportunity. She enjoys discovering what makes people different and finding ways to help that value be seen.

A conversation can open a door. An introduction can create an opportunity. An opportunity can create confidence. And confidence can change the direction of someone’s journey.

This is also how she thinks about leadership.

Leadership does not always have to mean being the loudest voice in the room. Sometimes it is recognising potential, opening a door, creating clarity, advocating for someone or helping them see a possibility they had not considered.

A Personal Brand That Is Still Evolving

That same philosophy has found its way into Karima’s personal brand.

Known online as Karima كريمة, she has chosen not to build a carefully manufactured persona. Instead, her platform reflects the different parts of her life—her work, creativity, experiences, reflections and the realities of being a woman and a mother.

Authenticity, for her, does not mean having everything figured out.

It means being willing to share the learning as well as the achievements.

Her personality is naturally curious, warm and people-oriented, but also strategic. She enjoys conversations, discovering stories, making introductions and finding the common thread between seemingly different people or ideas.

For Karima, personal branding is therefore not about creating a version of herself. It is about making visible the person she already is.

Motherhood: Learning Alongside Her Children

Motherhood is perhaps where Karima is most comfortable admitting that she does not have all the answers.

She is still learning.

The children growing up today are experiencing a very different world from the one their parents grew up in. The way they communicate, learn, process emotions and experience the world continues to evolve.

For Karima, that means parenting cannot simply be about repeating what was done before. It requires curiosity, reflection and a willingness to learn new ways of understanding children.

That has included exploring approaches such as play therapy and learning more about how children communicate through behaviour, emotion and play—not because she believes there is a perfect formula for parenting, but because she wants to understand her children better.

“I think one of the biggest lessons of motherhood is realising that you are learning alongside your children. The children of today are growing up in a very different world from the one we grew up in. So I don’t think we can simply parent them the way we were parented. We have to keep learning too.”

There are days when she gets it right, days when she questions herself, and plenty of moments when she is simply figuring things out.

For Karima, that is part of authentic motherhood.

Storytelling With Purpose

Storytelling has become another expression of the way Karima thinks.

She believes facts communicate information, but stories create meaning. They can make an achievement memorable, turn an initiative into an experience and help people see themselves in something larger.

Whether she is communicating an organisational message, shaping an experience, supporting a small business or giving talent a platform, she is interested in the human story underneath it.

Because ultimately, the stories that matter most are about people: what they experience, what they contribute, what they learn and what becomes possible when they are given the opportunity to move forward.

From Oman to the Wider GCC

Rooted in Oman, Karima’s story also reflects a wider regional conversation about women, work, identity, entrepreneurship and influence.

She represents a generation of women who are building lives that do not fit neatly into one category—professional and personal, ambitious and nurturing, strategic and creative.

For her, these identities do not compete with one another. They inform each other.

Her Omani roots remain an important part of who she is, while her work and interests continue to reach into a broader GCC conversation around people, businesses, talent and opportunity.

Influence With Meaning

For Karima, influence is not measured purely by reach.

A more meaningful measure is whether something she creates helps someone discover an opportunity, gives a small business greater visibility, promotes someone’s talent, introduces the right people, or simply helps someone see a new direction.

That is ultimately what connects the different parts of her story—from being the eldest sister who learned early to look out for others, to becoming a professional who sees pathways between people and opportunities, to being a mother who is still learning alongside her children.

Karima is not trying to present a finished version of herself.

She is building, learning, creating and evolving.

And perhaps her greatest strength is knowing that the map is never really finished.

There is always another person to help, another talent to champion, another small business to support, another opportunity to create, another story to tell—and another path to discover.
