The death toll from devastating flash floods and mudslides in Nepal has risen to 903, while more than 2,500 people remain missing, according to the country’s disaster authority, as rescue teams intensify efforts to locate survivors and people believed trapped inside hydropower tunnels.
The disaster, which struck on Wednesday, has caused widespread destruction along the Bhote Koshi River, a major upper tributary of the Trishuli. The flash flood, triggered by a rock-and-ice avalanche, swept through settlements and hydropower project areas, leaving hundreds dead or unaccounted for.
