Sonia Kruger never gets tired of the red carpet.
“I love fashion, and I have been lucky, because I have a job where I am able to play around with some amazing designers — I get to play dress-up,” the popular presenter told The West Australian ahead of hosting tonight’s Logies red carpet on Channel 7.
Kruger, who will host coverage of the arrivals at Sydney’s The Star for the 66th TV Week Logie Awards alongside Dr Chris Brown from 7pm, is no stranger to the event, having attended for the better part of two decades and even won the prestigious Gold Logie for most popular personality on Australian television in 2023.

She said the red carpet gave her a first peak at what TV colleagues are wearing, and what fashion trends were dominating.
“Over the last few years, we have seen a lot of feathers, and this year, for example, I’m expecting to see a bit of fringe,” she said.
“I think we also like to see when people go way over the top — they’ve got the special event dress, and the special event hair, and special event makeup, and all together, it’s a bit ‘special event’.”
This year, Kruger is again working with long-time stylist, Natalia De Martin to create her own special red carpet look.
“I have worked with her for the last decade,” Kruger said.
“Really, I don’t think I had a lot of style before Natalia — she’s one of the most inherently stylish people I know.
“If I was left to my own devices, everything in my wardrobe would be black.
“Even Craig, my partner, he’s like, ‘Oh, black again!’ But to me, it’s practical. It goes with everything. It makes you feel slimmer on those days, and it never shows the dirt.
“I’d love to walk out of the house in an all white outfit, but it’s not going to be that colour when it gets home.”
Kruger, who is also currently hosting The Voice on Channel 7, said when she is off screen she prefers to keep her appearance more low-key.
So low-key, in fact, that she sometimes feels she’s letting the public down.
“I think a lot of people would assume that I love to get dressed up and go out, but I am the opposite,” she admits.
“I am very low maintenance. I have to be pushed to shave my legs. It might be too much information, but it’s true.”
Kruger suspects her easy-care approach in her downtime may be because she spends so much of her professional life in the hair and make-up chair with her style team, known as her “glam squad”.
“I have to stay on top of everything, so I have to have my nails done, and my hair done, and my makeup done,” she explains.

Kruger says she is looking forward to celebrating 70 years of Australian television this year.
“In terms of creativity, you know, we really should be celebrated as an industry,” she said.
“And I think that is what The Logies is all about — it’s celebrating that.”
And she teased she has something special planned for her own red carpet outfit.
“I think you’ll love it,” she said. “It’s all pewter and beautiful —bronze, and beaded. I really love like it.”

This year’s Logies will celebrate 70 years of Australian TV, and will be hosted by audience favourite, Robert Irwin.
“I remember watching my dad presenting at the Logies,” Irwin recently told The West Australian.
“The venomous snake mishap — that was hilarious. “

This year, seven of TV’s biggest stars will duke it out for the Gold Logie.
The nominees include journalist Ally Langdon, I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! host Julia Morris, Muster Dogs presenter and journalist Lisa Millar, Masterchef’s Poh Ling Yeow, comedian Sam Pang (who hosted the awards last year), tennis champion-turned-game show host Todd Woodbridge and Irwin himself.

This year sees the inclusion of a new category, named in honour of esteemed Channel 7 sports commentator Bruce McAvaney.
In a hilarious twist, The Bruce McAvaney Award for most popular sports presenter will see the legendary broadcaster compete for the award named after him, going up against the likes of Ricky Ponting and Eddie McGuire.

Electronic duo Peking Duk will be hoping to get the stars out of the seats, and Dancing Too. They will be joined by guest vocalist Kye, to perform their new track Thrills.

All eyes will be on Best Lead Actor In A Drama category. This award will see Hollywood heavyweight Jacob Elordi, who is nominated for his role in The Narrow Road To The Deep North, competing alongside Sam Neill, who sadly passed away last month.
Mark Coles Smith (Mystery Road: Origin), Rob Collins (RFDS) and Stephen Peacocke (RFDS) round out the field.
