Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday urged people to ensure their names are not deleted from the electoral rolls during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR), alleging that certain political forces were attempting to manipulate voter lists in the state.
He called on Congress workers to verify voter details in every household and ensure that no eligible voter loses the right to vote.
Addressing the Minorities Excellence Summit, Revanth Reddy claimed that the same political forces that had targeted West Bengal were now focusing on Telangana.
He alleged that efforts were being made to delete voters’ names during the revision exercise and asserted that the Congress government would not allow such attempts to succeed.
‘SAFEGUARD THE RIGHT TO VOTE’
The Chief Minister appealed to party workers to visit every household and check electoral rolls to ensure that every eligible citizen remained enrolled as a voter.
“Everyone must become a Revanth Reddy and safeguard the right to vote,” he said.
Referring to minority welfare, Revanth Reddy said Hindus and Muslims were “two eyes” for him and accused the BJP of opposing the state’s 4 per cent reservation for minorities.
He recalled Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement that the reservation would be scrapped if the BJP came to power in Telangana and said the Congress had challenged the BJP to first abolish similar provisions in Gujarat.
The Chief Minister credited the Congress government with effectively implementing the 4 per cent minority reservation, claiming that beneficiaries had secured jobs in Group-1 and Group-2 government services.
He also alleged that despite attempts to stall the recruitment process through litigation in the Supreme Court, the state government pursued the matter and completed the appointments.
MINORITY REPRESENTATION IN PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION
Highlighting the government’s initiatives for minority communities, Revanth Reddy said a member of the minority community had been appointed to the Telangana Public Service Commission.
He also referred to the appointment of former India cricket captain Mohammed Azharuddin as a minister, the Group-1 level appointment and Rs 3 crore cash award given to world boxing champion Nikhat Zareen, and the appointment of cricketer Mohammed Siraj as a Deputy Superintendent of Police.
The Chief Minister also urged minority youth to acquire professional skills alongside formal education, saying countries such as Germany and Japan offered significant employment opportunities.
He said the state government had established a Skills University to equip students with industry-relevant skills and thanked the Muslim community for its support, saying their cooperation had helped him become Chief Minister.
