The dog was shot and killed early Tuesday morning during the attempted armed robbery in Hollis, New Hampshire, police said.
Authorities are investigating an attempted armed robbery in New Hampshire that resulted in the victim’s dog being shot and killed, according to a release from the Hollis Police Department.
Shortly before 3 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a reported armed robbery on Laurel Hill Road. The victim told officers that he had been communicating with a supposed female online. They had made plans for the female to come to his residence, he said.
When the victim received a notification that the female had arrived at his residence, he went to the driveway with his dog to meet her, police said. Once outside, the victim reportedly encountered a woman and man who displayed a firearm and demanded money.
The victim fled the scene, dropping his dog’s leash in the process. The dog was shot and killed by the man, and then both suspects fled the scene, according to police. The investigation found evidence that the suspects fled northbound on Silver Lake Road.
The investigation remains ongoing. Hollis police are requesting any residents in the area with street-facing security cameras to check their footage from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. Tuesday and to contact them if any footage is found that would help identify the suspects.
“This was an incident in which the victim was targeted” police said. “We do not believe there is an immediate threat to the general public at this time.”
