New footage has revealed the frantic scene of an earthquake hitting in the middle of surgery.

The footage shows doctors and nurses huddled around the operating table while performing a routine abdominal surgery on a patient.
Chaos erupted within a matter of moments as the room started to shake violently, forcing staff to dodge medical equipment while trying to find something secure to hold onto.
Some of the doctors held onto the operating table, securing the unconscious patient by partially lying over them as tables and machines rolled around the room and the lights went out.
The violent quake began to subside about 10 seconds later with staff frantically returning to check on the patient.

The surgery was one of four being undertaken at the hospital when the earthquake hit, all of which were successfully completed afterward.
However, the hospital was forced to suspend some services in the wake of the disaster due to damage.
The earthquake killed 38 people and collapsed hundreds of buildings across the region.
Seven of those killed were recovered from the rubble of the Aeon Mall in Kumamoto after the second floor collapsed and an explosion was reported.
Officials estimated about 3000 people were inside the mall at the time, with five people miraculously being found alive in the wreckage.
