LIV Golf’s future handed major boost as new investment ‘signed’ and ‘approved’

LIV Golf’s future has been handed a major boost as a new investment package has been “signed” and “approved”.

The league’s CEO, Scott O’Neil, announced the news in a press conference at Trump Bedminster.

He explained that the move will help drive LIV into its “new era”, with the league also having “strong interest” from a number of other parties.

O’Neil said: “LIV Golf has an agreement in place with a lead investor, signed by the investor and approved by the Board, to anchor the transaction and play a key role in supporting the path forward for the League’s next era, driven by and for the players.

“We’re also seeing strong interest from more than a dozen additional parties to potentially serve as minority investors, creating a multi-partner model built for long-term stability and growth.

“Notably, our next chapter will make our players the majority equity holders in LIV Golf, a first for a major global sports league, and gives the League the foundation to keep growing the game worldwide.

“We anticipate finalising terms in the coming weeks, with the goal of entering a transaction in September.

“In the meantime, our focus is on delivering a great week for fans and players at Bedminster and finishing the 2026 season strong.”

The league’s future has been up in the air after Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund announced in April that it would withdraw its backing at the end of the season.

O’Neil’s announcement comes just a day after Bryson DeChambeau led a players’ meeting, with power expected to transition to the league’s star.

The news comes after the league’s highly-anticipated season-ending Team Championship in Michigan was scrapped last month.

Former major champion Martin Kaymer, captain of Cleeks GC, shared that the Team Championship was unlikely to take place after attending a captains’ meeting with O’Neil.

Speaking to Today’s Golfer, Kaymer admitted the Michigan finale was “highly unlikely” to go ahead.

Only two tournaments remain on the 2026 schedule in the United States.

LIV Golf Indianapolis is still due to be staged before LIV Golf New York, which remains scheduled to take place at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey.

This year’s prize fund had been reduced to $40m (£29.6m) from last season’s $50m (£37.1m), while the champions’ payout was cut from $14m (£10.4m) to $11.2m (£8.3m).

It marks the second LIV event to disappear from the calendar this year after LIV Golf Louisiana was cancelled in April.

The investment news today will be a welcome boost to the league’s players, such as key names Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton.
