A new community mall is preparing to open in one of Dubai’s growing residential neighbourhoods, bringing a mix of supermarkets, restaurants, cafés, retail stores and wellness services under one roof.
The Grand Dubai will officially open on Wednesday, August 19, in Nad Al Sheba, with more stores and restaurants joining the destination in phases over the coming months.
First announced in 2024, the two-storey mall is part of the wider Nad Al Sheba Gardens development and is designed to serve both local residents and visitors from across Dubai.
When will The Grand Dubai open?
The Grand Dubai will open its doors on August 19, with the first group of retailers ready for customers from opening day.
The opening phase will include Waitrose, giving residents a new supermarket option within the community.
Other businesses opening from day one include MMI, Heart Cottage Lane, Maple Bear Nursery, Al Jaber Optical and Fixperts.
The mall will then continue to expand, with more restaurants, cafés and services expected to open from September onwards.
Tashas, Kokoro and Bake My Day are coming
Foodies will have plenty to look forward to at The Grand Dubai.
From early September, the mall will welcome several popular Dubai brands, including Tashas, Somewhere Home Bakery, Kokoro, Blu Pizzeria, Bake My Day and Daima.
Staywell Pharmacy and Tips and Toes will also join the community destination.
The addition of these established local names means The Grand is expected to become more than just a place for everyday shopping, with residents able to visit for dining, coffee, beauty and other lifestyle services.
Kokoro and Bake My Day join forces
One of the more interesting additions will be a permanent dual-concept location bringing together Kokoro Handroll Bar and Bake My Day.
Kokoro recently closed its pop-up at The Square as it prepares for its new long-term home at The Grand.
The space will be divided equally between the two brands, with each having its own design, colour palette and identity.
Kokoro will serve its signature Japanese handrolls, while Bake My Day will bring its popular cookies to the new location.
The combined concept will give visitors the option to enjoy two different food experiences in the same space.
More health and wellness options are coming
The Grand’s offering will continue to grow beyond retail and dining.
Fitcode and American Hospital are expected to complete the destination’s health and wellness offering in early 2027.
Further details about additional openings, experiences and community programmes are expected to be announced over the coming months.
What is The Grand Dubai?
The Grand is being developed as a community-focused lifestyle destination within the wider Nad Al Sheba Gardens residential development.
Rather than operating solely as a traditional shopping centre, the mall is designed around everyday convenience, with restaurants, retail, education, healthcare and lifestyle services located close to the surrounding residential community.
Shamal Holding CEO Abdulla Binhabtoor described the project as part of the company’s long-term vision for Nad Al Sheba.
He said the destination was designed not only for convenience but also to create a welcoming and connected environment that becomes part of residents’ everyday lives.
The Grand is open to non-residents
Although The Grand is located within the Nad Al Sheba Gardens community, you do not need to live there to visit.
The mall will be open to the wider public, meaning residents from other parts of Dubai can also visit its restaurants, shops and services.
Its location makes it particularly convenient for people travelling from areas including Downtown Dubai, DIFC, Business Bay and Meydan.
The development is around 10 minutes from Downtown Dubai, making it relatively accessible for visitors looking to explore the new destination.
A mall designed around the neighbourhood
The Grand has been designed to blend into the surrounding landscape rather than stand apart from it.
The development uses natural colours and materials intended to complement the wider residential area.
Its architecture will also connect with landscaped parking areas and nearby parks.
A light steel roof supported by vertical columns is designed to allow natural light into the mall, creating a more open environment for visitors.
Part of Nad Al Sheba Gardens
The Grand forms part of the larger Nad Al Sheba Gardens development, which spans approximately 1.5 million square metres.
The residential community includes contemporary three- to seven-bedroom villas and townhouses, alongside facilities designed for leisure, fitness and everyday living.
Residents will have access to landscaped areas, walkable roads and cycling tracks, as well as an education campus and other community amenities.
The development is positioned as a family-focused neighbourhood with a combination of residential, retail and lifestyle facilities.
More openings to follow
The August opening will only be the beginning for The Grand Dubai.
With Waitrose and several other businesses opening first, more restaurants, cafés, retail outlets and wellness services will arrive throughout the following months.
The arrival of Tashas, Kokoro, Bake My Day and other popular Dubai brands should give the community mall a strong food and lifestyle offering from its early stages.
With further announcements expected, The Grand Dubai is set to become a new everyday destination in Nad Al Sheba, serving nearby residents while also attracting visitors from other parts of the city.
