Netflix hits the slopes with new ANZ drama QUEENSTOWN

Netflix is taking its next ANZ drama to the slopes, announcing Queenstown as its first commissioned series to be set and filmed in New Zealand.

Production is already underway in the South Island resort town on the eight episode scripted series, marking the first time a Netflix production commissioned by its ANZ team has been both set and shot in New Zealand.

Leading the cast are Emmy Award nominee Rufus Sewell (The Diplomat, Scoop, The Father), Frances O’Connor (Wednesday, The Missing), Alycia Debnam Carey (Apple Cider Vinegar, The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart) and Te Kohe Tuhaka (Chief of War, The Convert, Kōkā).

Set beneath the glamour of Queenstown’s luxury ski scene, a privileged family and the people who work for them collide over power, loyalty and desire.

Netflix ANZ Content Director Amanda Duthie said bringing the streamer’s first locally commissioned series to New Zealand was a significant milestone for both Netflix and the country’s screen industry.

“Shooting our first locally commissioned series here in New Zealand is a huge moment for us.”

Executive producers Jodi Matterson and Libbie Doherty said Queenstown reflected the type of distinctive storytelling they set out to champion through Silent Firework and Runaway Unicorn.

“We’re incredibly grateful to Amanda Duthie and the entire Netflix team for backing our vision to help bring what we believe will become audiences’ next obsession.”

Created, written and executive produced by Chloe Stearns, Queenstown will be directed by Glendyn Ivin, with Roseanne Liang also directing.

The series is produced by Silent Firework and Runaway Unicorn, with Jodi Matterson, Libbie Doherty, Jeremy Platt and Erika North among the executive producers.

Queenstown will stream globally on Netflix following its release, joining a list of breakout Australian titles which have found international success including Boy Swallows Universe, Apple Cider Vinegar, Territory and Heartbreak High.
