Code Blue extended across nine South Australian regions as cold weather continues

A Code Blue extreme winter weather response will remain active across nine South Australian regions until 9am on Wednesday, July 8, as cold conditions continue across the state.

The extended activation is designed to help people sleeping rough stay warm, dry and connected with essential support during periods of severe winter weather.

The Code Blue response remains in place for the Clare Valley, Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Fleurieu Peninsula, Lower South East, Mid North, Mount Lofty Ranges, Murraylands, Riverland and Upper South East.

During the activation, homelessness services and their partners may provide extended outreach, increased staffing, practical supplies including food, water, clothing and blankets, as well as additional daytime refuge and overnight accommodation where available.

Minister for Human Services Katrine Hildyard said the response is aimed at protecting some of the state’s most vulnerable people.

“We know cold weather creates heightened risk for people sleeping rough.

“This activation is about giving people somewhere warm and safe to stay, along with the practical support they need during the most severe conditions.

“We want to help ensure that the South Australians most needing a hand are not left exposed during winter weather. We want to be there for those who need us most.

“Code Blue Tier 2 helps ensure additional outreach, additional support and more emergency accommodation for people without a safe place to sleep.”

Anyone concerned about someone sleeping rough is encouraged to contact Homeless Connect SA to help connect them with available support services.
