Mother poisons children, attempts to end life over domestic dispute in Chittoor

A 28-year-old woman was hospitalised after allegedly taking poison at Bhumandlapuram village in Ramakuppam mandal of Chittoor district, the police said. She reportedly also gave poison to her two children, who succumbed while undergoing treatment.

According to the police, Divya (28) and her husband, Subramanyam (30), both agricultural workers, had been married for about a decade. The couple had been quarrelling for the past two years over Subramanyam allegedly living with another woman in a nearby village.

After a dispute on Friday night (July 3, 2026), Subramanyam reportedly attacked Divya before leaving the house. An emotionally distraught Divya allegedly served a beverage laced with poison to her daughter, Geetha (7), and son, Harshith (4), before consuming the same.

Neighbours shifted the three to a government hospital in Vaniyambadi, Tamil Nadu. Geetha died on Saturday and Harshith succumbed on Sunday while undergoing treatment. Divya’s condition is said to be critical. The Ramakuppam police registered a case.
