Adelaide is heading into a cold but fairly settled week, with daytime temperatures stuck in the mid-teens, only a slight chance of showers for most of the week, and a wetter change looking more likely by Saturday.
Sunday stays partly cloudy across Adelaide, with a small chance of a passing shower and some morning fog around earlier in the day. The city is only expected to reach 15 degrees, which sets the tone for a run of cooler-than-average winter weather. Monday looks much the same, with a low of 7 degrees and a top of 15, plus just a slight chance of a shower in the southern suburbs.
Tuesday will stay partly cloudy with another top of 15 degrees, and again only a slight chance of a shower in the southern suburbs. Winds will pick up a little through the day, turning northwesterly at 15 to 20 km/h before easing later on. By Wednesday, temperatures edge up slightly to 16 degrees, though there is still the chance of patchy morning fog about the hills and a slight chance of a shower. Thursday follows a very similar setup, with a low of 8 and a top of 16 under partly cloudy skies.
The second half of the week remains steady rather than dramatic. Friday brings another partly cloudy day with light winds becoming east to northeasterly during the morning, and a top of 16 degrees. Then by Saturday, Adelaide’s weather becomes a little more active, with a medium chance of showers and northerly to northeasterly winds of 15 to 25 km/h. The temperature is expected to lift to 17 degrees, making it the mildest day of the forecast stretch, but also the dampest, with up to 4 mm of rain possible.
Across South Australia, the broader picture is also being shaped by a high pressure system over the Bight, which will move slowly east into Monday before a cold front brushes southern coastal districts on Tuesday. That means isolated light showers are most likely about southern coastal areas over the next few days, while inland districts can expect foggy mornings, patchy frost, and below-average maximum temperatures.
Sunday may also bring isolated light showers to the northern Flinders Ranges, while patchy frost is possible through parts of the Agricultural Area. On Monday, frost risk extends into parts of the Flinders district and the far south of the pastoral districts. By Tuesday and Wednesday, central and eastern districts are also likely to see morning fog and frost, so inland travellers should take extra care on early drives.
Rainfall totals through to the end of Wednesday are expected to remain modest for most districts, with less than 2 mm about the south of the pastoral districts and 1 to 5 mm across the Flinders, West Coast districts and the Agricultural Areas. Higher isolated totals of 5 to 15 mm are possible about the southern coasts and ranges. For boaters, Adelaide Metropolitan Waters are looking relatively calm through midweek, with light winds, low seas and low swell, although conditions can still change quickly around the passage of the Tuesday front.
Happy Sunday!
