The VC Who Stopped Funding AI and Started Building It”

Most people in the startup world choose a side early. They become investors, or they become builders.

Saltukhan Gulsen chose both — and did so deliberately.

His career began with leadership responsibility at an unusually young age, moved through the venture capital world where he helped manage over $125 million in assets and worked closely with more than 80 startups, and eventually led him to the operator’s seat at gaming and deep technology companies.

Today, Gulsen sits on the other side of the table. As the co-founder of Ideasets, an AI-driven technology company, and Rekt, a creator economy agency, he represents a new generation of founders who bring investor-grade strategic thinking to the act of building.

His story is not about choosing between capital and creation. It is about understanding both deeply enough to build something that neither side could produce alone.

Learning Leadership Before Most People Start Their Careers

One of the most defining moments in Gulsen’s early professional life came when he assumed a management role at Greenpeace while still young.

Leading teams and collaborating with colleagues across international borders provided lessons that no university program could replicate. The experience taught him accountability, ownership, communication, and the ability to inspire people around a shared mission.

More importantly, it showed him that leadership is not about authority. It is about earning trust, taking responsibility, and creating alignment among people with diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

Those lessons became the foundation upon which he would build every future endeavor.

Discovering the Intersection of Technology, Capital, and Creativity

Unlike many entrepreneurs who remain focused on a single industry, Gulsen was drawn to the space where technology, creativity, human behavior, and business strategy intersect.

His career eventually led him into the investment world, where he gained exposure to startups, venture ecosystems, and growth-stage businesses across multiple international markets.

Over time, he contributed to fund structures managing approximately $125 million in assets under management and worked closely with more than 80 startups spanning Turkey, Central Asia, Europe, and other regions.

While these numbers are impressive, Gulsen believes the true value came from the insights gained along the way.

Working closely with founders across different sectors allowed him to develop a deep understanding of business models, growth patterns, scaling challenges, market dynamics, and leadership strategies. The experience sharpened his ability to recognize opportunities and understand what separates successful ventures from those that struggle to grow.

Moving From Investor to Builder

After years of evaluating businesses from the investment side, Gulsen made a deliberate decision to move closer to the operational side of entrepreneurship.

He stepped into leadership roles within gaming and deep technology companies, seeking firsthand experience in product development, team building, and business execution.

This transition gave him a perspective that many investors never experience. Instead of simply analyzing companies, he was now helping build them.

The move reinforced one of the most important lessons of his career: strategy alone is not enough.

According to Gulsen, vision only creates value when combined with disciplined execution. Ambitious ideas may attract attention, but sustainable businesses are built through systems, processes, and consistent action.

Having worked across NGOs, venture funds, startups, gaming companies, and deep-tech ventures, he understands that every industry shares a common challenge: turning ideas into results. This mindset continues to shape his approach to leadership, entrepreneurship, and company building today.

Building Ideasets and Rekt

Currently, Gulsen is focused on growing two companies that reflect his passion for technology, innovation, and media.

Ideasets is building the intelligence infrastructure for digital product development. The company uses AI to analyze market signals across more than two million digital titles in 140 countries, predicting which products will succeed before they are built.

With seven AI-powered products already in its ecosystem, backing from NVIDIA’s Inception Program and the AWS Startup Program, and investment raised at a $10 million post-money valuation shortly after establishment, Ideasets has moved quickly from concept to operational scale.

Alongside Ideasets, he co-founded Rekt, a company operating within influencer marketing and the rapidly expanding creator economy.

Together, these ventures reflect his belief that the future belongs to businesses capable of combining technology, content, and human connection.

Rather than building companies solely for local markets, Gulsen’s ambition is to create ventures capable of competing on a global scale.

Creating Global Opportunities From Emerging Regions

One of the themes that consistently defines Gulsen’s work is his commitment to proving that world-class innovation can emerge from regions outside traditional technology hubs.

While Silicon Valley, London, and other major centers continue to dominate headlines, he believes significant opportunities exist across Turkey, Central Asia, and neighboring markets.

His vision extends beyond building successful companies.

He wants to help create ecosystems where talent, capital, and entrepreneurial ambition can connect more effectively, creating opportunities for future generations of founders and innovators.

By bridging international markets and fostering cross-border collaboration, he hopes to contribute to a more globally connected innovation landscape.

Looking Ahead

As artificial intelligence, digital media, and emerging technologies continue reshaping industries around the world, Saltukhan Gulsen is positioning himself at the forefront of this transformation.

His journey from Greenpeace leadership to venture capital, startup operations, and company building demonstrates the power of combining diverse experiences into a unified entrepreneurial vision.

Looking ahead, his goal remains clear: to build globally relevant companies, connect talent and capital across borders, and help demonstrate that innovation can thrive anywhere when supported by strong execution and ambitious thinking.

For Gulsen, success is not defined solely by valuations, funding rounds, or headlines. It is measured by the lasting value created through companies, teams, and ecosystems that continue to grow long after the initial idea is born.

Having sat on both sides of the table — as an investor and now as a builder — he and his co-founders are focused on proving that the next generation of globally competitive AI companies can emerge from anywhere.

That may prove to be his most impactful bet yet.
