Radici Cafe and Catering opened with a bang this June, bringing authentic and modern Italian cuisine to Stepney. Run by Italian-born co-owners and long-term friends, Maria and Sergio, the cafe is a unique fusion of a modern Australian brunch cafe, a traditional Italian bakery, and a premium catering service.
With over 40 years of combined experience between them, this dynamic duo are hospitality pros, with Maria developing her deep love for Italian food from her family before fully embracing the Adelaide food scene, and Sergio starting his culinary journey from helping in kitchens at a young age, to eventually becoming a head chef and restaurant manager in venues across Adelaide.
“The name Radici means ‘roots’, and it represents the weaving together of our past in Italy, our present culinary journey here, and the future foundations we are building for our children as proud Australians,” says Sergio, also the current owner and Executive Chef of Qualitaly Cuisine.
The menu focuses on healthy and homemade cooking, offering a wide range of dine-in and catering options, designed to suit any palate, from their savoury to their sweet items.
“We are catering to locals who genuinely care about what they put into their bodies. We are choosing only the best products, also the coffee provided by Segafredo is the best blend possible,” say Sergio and Maria.
The bakery and deli are built around the cafe’s signature homemade focaccia, loaded with cured meats, and their ‘brunch with a twist’ takes cafe favourites and elevates them with an Italian spin. There are also the classics, including traditional lasagna, homemade gnocchi, zuppa del giorno (soup of the day), potato croquettes, and a premium catering menu featuring hand-crumbed cotolette.
The duo say they chose Stepney to open their cafe because they discovered a gap in the market for a truly high-quality, artisanal food offering, and were seeking to bring both comfort and sophistication to the local community.
“Our goal is to establish Radici as a premier destination for food lovers, a place where people can grab their morning coffee, enjoy a world-class brunch or book high-end catering for their private events. We want to show Adelaide that you can blend convenience with uncompromised, scratch-cooked quality,” says Sergio.
