A 29-year-old Russian woman tourist was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the washroom of a homestay in Himachal Pradesh’s Kasol on Saturday, police said. The incident comes just days after a Nigerian woman died during a police raid on an alleged synthetic drug manufacturing unit in Delhi.
According to police, the Russian tourist had travelled to Kasol, a popular destination in the Parvati Valley frequented by Israeli, Russian and Ukrainian visitors, and was staying at a homestay with a friend. On Saturday, her companion allegedly found her unconscious in the washroom and immediately sought help. However, she was declared dead before medical assistance could arrive.
After being informed by local panchayat representatives, a police team from Manikaran reached the spot and launched an investigation. The body was sent to the Regional Hospital in Kullu for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Officials said the woman’s friend did not suspect foul play during preliminary questioning. “The autopsy report will reveal whether the death was caused by a medical condition or some other factor,” a police officer said. The Russian Embassy in New Delhi has been informed as per protocol, and the investigation is ongoing.
SIMILAR INCIDENT IN DELHI EARLIER THIS WEEK
In a separate incident in Delhi on June 12, a 41-year-old Nigerian woman died after allegedly jumping from the fourth-floor balcony of a flat in Swaroop Nagar during a police raid linked to a narcotic investigation.
According to police, the raid was conducted by the Anti-Narcotics Squad based on leads obtained during an ongoing probe under the NDPS Act. Officers first arrested a resident from the third floor and recovered narcotic substances. When police entered a fourth-floor flat occupied by foreign nationals, the Nigerian woman allegedly jumped from the balcony.
Subsequent searches led to the discovery of a clandestine synthetic drug laboratory. Police recovered large quantities of chemicals, suspected narcotic substances and laboratory equipment allegedly used to manufacture methamphetamine and MDMA.
While the two incidents are unrelated, both cases involving foreign nationals are currently under investigation by authorities.
