The Kolkata Police has registered an FIR against the former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee following a political speech delivered in March ahead of the Bengal assembly polls. In the speech, a warning was issued that if a particular community comes together, it can have dire consequences for others. Based on a complaint filed by a businessman, the case was registered under non-bailable sections of the BNSS at the Esplanade police station. This is the second FIR against the former Chief Minister, with the first involving remarks on Indo-Bangladesh relations. Kolkata Police has initiated an investigation and reviewed video clippings of the speech. Under Section 196 of the DNSS, the police hold the right to arrest a person without a warrant.
