A little girl was found injured on train tracks near a residential neighborhood, police said.

A toddler was hit and killed by a train Wednesday evening in Springfield, police said.

At 6:15 p.m., police found a little girl injured on train tracks behind Emily Street in Springfield, police said. 

The toddler was brought to Bay State Hospital, where she died from her injuries, the Springfield Police Department posted on X.

The girl was 21 months old and was struck by an Amtrak train, The Boston Globe reported.

The train was en-route from Albany to Boston, Amtrak told the Globe.

Emily Street is a residential street that sits next to train tracks.

The Springfield Police Department is investigating the incident. 

Springfield police did not respond to a request for comment, nor did Amtrak.
