Miss that show you wanted on Ten, and don’t want to play catch-up? From August you’ll have an hour’s grace…
This kind of ‘live catch-up’ programming has been running on Foxtel for some time now, and in an attempt to address those that don’t want to use their internet-based service or own a PVR Channel 10 will be delivering a delayed run of the same programming on one of their unused free-to-air broadcast channels. It’s certainly going to be a point of difference as no other FTA network is doing it, though the question needs to be asked: why are they doing it?
Wouldn’t anybody who wanted to catch up on something from Channel 10 ‘primary’ just jump on their online streaming service to do it? Did they have enough demand to warrant it? Is it a use it or lose it scenario for their bandwidth? Will it be in HD or scaled down? Are people in the regions–where the internet is already sketchy at best and could likely benefit from it–going to get this or are they being entirely shunted?
I guess we’ll find out on 14 August.

From the press release:
Network 10 today announced it has invented time. Well, not exactly… but it’s the next best thing.
From August 10, 10+1 is live on Channel 14 in metro markets: the complete Channel 10 schedule, broadcast one hour later, completely free. No streaming. No subscription. No remembering your password. Just Channel 10, one hour behind.
Dinner running long? Kids refusing to go to bed? Still hunting for the TV remote behind the couch cushions? Not a problem. 10+1 has held your show for you. It’s been there the whole time, patiently waiting, no judgement.
10 said: “We looked at what Australians needed most and the answer was obvious: more time. We can’t slow the Earth’s rotation, but we can put your favourite shows on an hour later. Close enough.”
10+1 carries everything on Channel 10, drama, reality, entertainment, sport, shifted 60 minutes into the future. Or the past, depending on how you look at it. Philosophers, feel free to weigh in.

One small but important note though, 10+1 is a time shifted service, so for breaking news and live sport, Channel 10 is still your go-to. We would feel bad if you found out who left the MasterChef kitchen an hour late and blamed us.
10 added: “Channel 14. It’s Channel 10. Just later. That’s genuinely it. We’re very proud.”
10+1 is available on Channel 14 from August 10. A quick channel rescan on your TV or set-top box might be needed to find it. Think of it as a 60-second investment for a lifetime of never missing the start of MasterChef again.
Channel 10+1 (broadcasting on Channel 14) starts broadcasting from Friday 14 August.
