A day after Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav alleged that crores of rupees were missing from donations made to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust general secretary Champat Rai on Monday (June 8, 2026) dismissed the claims saying an internal audit was on. The BJP also hit back, accusing Mr. Yadav of spreading “fabricated lies” that will have “consequences” in the 2027 State elections.
“The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra undergoes internal audits from time to time. Representatives of the trust and the State Bank of India are involved in this exercise. The audit process lasts for several days. The same work is being carried out these days. Nothing noteworthy has come to light yet,” Mr. Rai said in a statement.
Mr. Yadav termed the clarification “suspicious” and said that funds going missing were a “normal thing” for the trust that they “don’t even consider it ‘remarkable’ anymore”.
In a long post on X, the leader demanded that all trust members “be brought together to provide explanations, and CCTV evidence should be used to verify the data.”
“Once all trustees are together, the truth will immediately emerge… It should also be clarified why it took so many hours to come up with a 40-second explanation, and why even speaking for one minute in the name of clarification is proving costly,” he said.
Mr. Yadav added that the “clarification is also suspicious”. “It seems as if the explanation is merely a verbal formality. The Sanatan society of the entire world has become even more suspicious and hurt by this very weak explanation,” he wrote.
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak accused Mr. Yadav of making a “failed attempt” to fabricate lies by spreading rumours and said the SP leader’s thinking was “Babar-centric”. He said the SP will “suffer the consequences” and lose the 2027 polls.
“SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, you never respected the Supreme Court’s decision… You didn’t welcome the installation of the idol of Lord Shri Ram. Now you are making a failed attempt to fabricate lies by spreading rumors… The Samajwadi Party will suffer the consequences in the coming days. In 2027, the Samajwadi Party will face defeat again. Your narrative of lies will never succeed. The people of the State have fully understood the actions of the SP,” said Mr. Pathak.
On June 7, Mr. Yadav had posted about a “very sensitive news for the devotees of Lord Ram all over the world”, alleging that “crores of rupees of offerings for the ‘Ram Temple’ have been found missing.”
He said it was a “deeply embarrassing situation” for the temple trust and no one was willing to explain. “There is a demand for the court to take suo motu cognizance because it is directly related to the deep faith of the entire Sanatani community at the global level in Lord Ram. The silence of the government is suspicious,” he had posted.
