Good news, college basketball fans. The Hall of Fame Series is returning to Boston next season with a pair of men’s matchups at TD Garden.
The first game will be a rematch of the 2026 NCAA national championship game between Michigan and UConn on Friday, Nov. 6. The Wolverines won that matchup, 69-63, and lead the series, 3-2.
It will be UConn’s third appearance in the Hall of Fame Series. The Huskies defeated Gonzaga at Madison Square Garden in December 2024, then knocked off BYU, 86-84, in last year’s Hall of Fame Series game at TD Garden.
The game also will be UConn’s fourth in four seasons at TD Garden. In March 2024, the Huskies rolled past San Diego State in the Sweet 16 and Illinois in the Elite Eight en route to repeating as national champions.
“Michigan is a championship program and we’re excited to test ourselves with an early challenge,” UConn coach Dan Hurley said in a statement. “It will be awesome to return to Boston and see the Husky faithful in ‘Storrs North,’ a city that has been great to us in recent years.”
The second game will feature a pair of former Big East foes when Providence and Syracuse meet on Saturday, Dec. 19. Both teams will have first-year coaches, with Providence hiring Bryan Hodgson and Syracuse bringing in Gerry McNamara. It will be the first meeting between the schools since Syracuse left for the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2013.
“It has been 20 years since the Friars played in TD Garden,” Hodgson said in a statement. “This is a unique opportunity that will enable us to play an ACC team and a former Big East rival.”
McNamara played in the building as a freshman on the Syracuse squad that opened the 2003 NCAA Tournament with a pair of wins over Manhattan and Oklahoma State on the way to winning the national championship.
“We appreciate the opportunity to return to New England, an area that includes a large and enthusiastic group of SU alumni and fans,” McNamara said in a statement. “Syracuse has a rivalry with Providence that dates more than 55 years, and we look forward to the challenge of competing against the Friars.”
Broadcast details, game times, and ticket information will be announced at a later date.
