From booths to governance: BJP chief Nitin Nabin shares organisational blueprint with Nepal’s RSP

BJP national president Nitin Nabin on Tuesday met Rabi Lamichhane, chairman of Nepal’s ruling Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP), at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, as the two sides explored ways to deepen political engagement and exchange views on organisational practices and democratic processes.

Lamichhane is leading a delegation of senior RSP leaders on a visit to India that began on Monday. The visit comes following an invitation from Nabin and marks the start of formal party-to-party engagement between the BJP and Nepal’s ruling party.

The visiting delegation was accorded a warm welcome at the BJP headquarters before holding discussions with the BJP leadership.

According to BJP foreign affairs department in-charge Vijay Chauthaiwale, Nabin highlighted the longstanding relationship between India and Nepal during the meeting.

“Welcoming the delegation, Nabin highlighted the close and historic ties between India and Nepal, rooted in shared civilisational heritage, cultural bonds and strong people-to-people relations,” Chauthaiwale said in a statement.

He added that Nabin underlined the importance of political exchanges between the two parties, saying such interactions help strengthen “democratic dialogue and deepen party-to-party engagement” between the BJP and the RSP.

During the discussions, the BJP chief shared insights into the party’s growth, ideological foundations and organisational framework. He also explained how the BJP functions from the national level down to the booth level and emphasised the role of party workers in maintaining direct contact with people at the grassroots.

Chauthaiwale said the Nepali delegation showed particular interest in understanding the BJP’s membership process, candidate selection system and mechanisms for identifying and nurturing grassroots leadership.

“During the interaction, the RSP delegation was keen to know BJP’s membership process, candidate selection system and the party’s mechanism for identifying and connecting with grassroots workers,” he said.

“Responding to their queries, Nabin explained how BJP’s organisational strength is built through continuous public outreach, booth-level engagement and participation of ordinary citizens in the democratic process,” Chauthaiwale added.

The BJP president also highlighted the governance model of the Narendra Modi government.

“He said that development, service, good governance and welfare delivery have remained central to BJP’s public outreach and governance approach,” Chauthaiwale said.

The meeting also featured discussions on the growing role of Generation Z in politics, particularly in shaping democratic participation, public discourse and future leadership.

Following the meeting, the BJP shared a video of the interaction on social media, stating: “Rabi Lamichhane, president of Nepal’s RSP party, met with the BJP national president Nitin Nabin today at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi.”
