Philadelphia native and professional basketball player Daeqwon Plowden is giving back to the community that helped shape his journey by hosting a free youth basketball camp for local student-athletes this summer at his alma mater, Mastery Prep, Pickett.
The camp will provide children in grades 5-8 with the opportunity to learn basketball fundamentals, build confidence, and spend time with a professional athlete whose journey began in Philadelphia.
Hosted by his foundation, Plowden Next Gen, the event focuses on mentorship, community impact, and creating opportunities for youth in Philadelphia.
“I think it’s been my purpose to use my platform to help change lives,” said Daeqwon Plowden.
“Coaches that are still in my life today have shown me what it means to do meaningful work in the community, and I think it’s only right to pay it forward for someone else to pay it forward in the future. Giving back is special and is a way to illustrate that we are human, and we care for others as much as our own journey.”
Camp participants will receive skill-development instruction, motivational encouragement, and the opportunity to connect with coaches, mentors, and community leaders in a positive environment focused on growth both on and off the court.
