A Stepney man has discovered he has been carrying a $2 million lottery ticket around in his wallet for almost a month, after finally checking his Saturday X Lotto entry and realising he was one of the state’s newest division one winners.
The Adelaide resident held one of three division one winning entries nationally in Saturday X Lotto draw 4673, drawn on Saturday 2 May 2026, taking home a $2,139,901.06 prize.
The ticket had not been registered to The Lott Members Club, which meant lottery officials had no way of contacting the mystery winner. Instead, they were left waiting for the lucky South Australian to come forward.
That finally happened yesterday, when the Stepney man checked the ticket he had been carrying with him the entire time.
“Cheers! I was trying not to get too excited until it was confirmed,” he laughed.
“I can’t believe that. I only check my tickets once a month, so I had absolutely no idea.
“I was at the shops yesterday and realised it had been a while since I last checked them, so I thought, ‘I better have a look’.
“Just as well I didn’t lose it! Thankfully, it had been sitting safely in my wallet.”
While many people might immediately start planning holidays, homes or dream purchases, the newly discovered millionaire had a different reaction. For him, the win is a chance to help the people and causes closest to his heart.
“We’ve got a couple of things we’d like to do,” he said.
“Most importantly, we want to help family and charities.
“It’ll really allow us to make more charitable donations throughout the year.
“Thank you so much!”
The winning entry was purchased at The Avenues Newsagency & Stationery, Shop 4/114 Payneham Road, Stepney, where owner Mr Marcel Greco said the news was a huge thrill for the store.
“When I heard the winning news, a big smile came on my face. I was so happy to know one of our customers won $2 million!” he said.
“We’ve sold five division one winning tickets over the years, and our last one was sold in April 2024.
“Congratulations to our customer. I hope this makes a big difference in your life and you can fulfil your bucket list dreams.”
The winning numbers in Saturday X Lotto draw 4673 on 2 May 2026 were 29, 19, 18, 45, 34 and 9, and the supplementary numbers were 28 and 8.
Across Australia, there were three division one winning entries in the draw, with one each in Queensland, Victoria and South Australia.
The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 375 so far this financial year, including 29 won by SA Lotteries customers.
