Glenelg is about to get its own Roman-inspired bathhouse, with Blue Lagoon Float and Spa preparing to open a new franchise location later this year.

The South Australian wellness brand, known for its Mediterranean-style float and day spa experiences, is expanding to the coast with a new Glenelg venue. It will mark the brand’s fourth South Australian location and a major step in its franchise journey.

Blue Lagoon Float and Spa first opened in 2020, right as COVID created huge uncertainty for the wellness industry. After navigating shutdowns and restrictions, the brand has continued to grow, recently sharing that it was also recognised in the 2025 World Luxury Spa Awards as Global Winner for the Best Luxury Floatation Therapy Spa.

At its heart, Blue Lagoon is built around the idea of bringing calming ancient water rituals into a modern day spa setting.

“We’re mainly all about the Mediterranean bathhouse,” a representative of Blue Lagoon Float and Spa told Glam Adelaide.

“It’s all about water therapies, mixing the old ancient rituals with the new modern era. It’s bringing back your old Roman bathhouse with a modern twist.”

The concept takes inspiration from the historic bathhouses of Rome and Europe, where bathing was once a social ritual centred around rest, renewal and connection. Blue Lagoon has reimagined that tradition in a more private, contemporary way, allowing guests to enjoy the experience on their own, with a partner or with a small group.

“It just brings back the old times from when they used to have bathhouses back in Rome,” the representative said.

“It was a community event. People would go and lay in the baths, have enriched magnesium in the water and get the benefits from the magnesium, the bathhouse and being in a shared community.”

“But we’ve gone one step further and made it very private. You’re not in a bath with strangers. You’ve got the whole bath to yourself, or if you want to go with a friend or partner.”

The new Glenelg venue is set to follow the style of Blue Lagoon’s newer North Adelaide location, with a Mediterranean and Roman-inspired aesthetic designed to feel removed from everyday Adelaide life. The fit-out will include around 12 rooms, making it slightly larger than some of the brand’s existing sites, with float rooms, a steam room, sauna, Jacuzzi, cold plunge, massage, facials, body rituals and a hair spa among the experiences expected.

“It’s going to feel pretty open and spacious,” the representative said.

“The aesthetics and the way it flows is going to be pretty similar to North Adelaide. It’s going to have everything from your float rooms, and it’s going to have a cold plunge as well, so you can do contrast therapy.”

“It’s very Mediterranean, Roman-inspired. It feels like you’re not in Adelaide. That’s what we get told a lot. It’s like a little retreat. If you can’t make it to Europe, come to Blue Lagoon Float and Spa and that’s your Mediterranean escape.”

Guests will be able to book anything from a short treatment to a longer spa day, with packages ranging from around an hour to all-day experiences. The offering is also designed to be flexible, from couples’ treatments and birthdays to bridal showers, hens parties, engagements and group bookings.

“You can stay for an hour, you can stay for five hours,” the representative said.

“All our packages range between an hour to all day, and it can mix between water therapies, our hair spa, body rituals, steam rooms, massage and facials.”

For couples, the experience can be tailored into a full spa date, with options such as treatments, antipasto platters and champagne. For families, Blue Lagoon also offers parent and child floats, creating a calmer bonding experience that the brand says can be particularly valuable for children who need time to relax and reset.

Blue Lagoon Float and Spa Owner Tina

The brand was created by owner Tina, who has intentionally stayed behind the scenes while allowing the experience, staff and spaces to lead the story.

“The brand, we sell the brand itself, not so much the owner,” the representative said.

“It’s more about the staff, the space and what we’ve created for people to come to.”

That philosophy is also reflected in the brand’s trademarked tagline, “Find Your Authentic Self”, which underpins the Blue Lagoon experience.

“It’s all about coming back to yourself,” the representative said.

“Sometimes with pressure, you forget who you are. Have a float, have a massage and find your authentic self again.”
