After work this Friday we’re thinking margaritas, smoky share plates and spicy late night energy at Prospect’s newest mexican hot spot.
Picoso Mexican Bar y Cocina has officially opened its doors on Prospect Road, bringing bold Mexican flavours, colourful interiors and a high-energy dining experience to Adelaide’s inner north.
When Glam Adelaide attended Picoso’s pre-opening launch, the space was packed with friends, family and guests getting an early look at the vibrant new bar and kitchen.
Speaking of, running the restaurant side of things is former Restaurant Botanic chef Oliver Luxton who has experience across London, New Zealand, Sydney and Adelaide.
Before the opening Oliver said the menu was bold, featuring traditional Mexican values but with a modern twist.
“It’s rooted in classic flavours like chilli, smoke and acid, but approached in a lighter, more refined way,” he said at the beginning of the month.
“It’s not trying to be overly authentic or overly fine dining, it sits somewhere in between, big flavour, clean execution and food that’s designed to share,” he said.

The food offering centres on bold, modern Mexican flavours designed for sharing, with dishes balancing smoke, spice, acidity and freshness, Oliver said.
Highlights include ceviche blanco, aged mole poblano with braised short rib, whole roasted local fish with green salsa, carne asada ranchera and a Mushroom Oaxaca Tlayuda, backed by house-made tortillas, rotating salsas and punchy sides like smoked pumpkin butter.
Picoso restaurant manager Kirstiin Luxton, who is also Oliver’s wife, said the aim was for guests to leave feeling like they had experienced something fun, different and light-hearted.
The bold prints, pink tiles, alfresco street-facing setup, colourful mural and palm tree wallpaper all help bring that vision to life, creating a venue that feels energetic without taking itself too seriously.
After all, Mi casa es tu casa.

Now open on Prospect Road, Picoso is calling out to couples, friend groups and family catch-ups looking to book a table, settle in with a round of drinks and share their way through a modern Mexican menu.
When summer hits, the deck seems like a perfect spot to enjoy the sinking sun, but with winter well underway we might stick to the booths inside while we wait.
