NEET leak case: CBI raids Latur coaching centre, mock test matches exam questions

A major coaching institute promoter from Maharashtra’s Latur district has come under the scanner of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the alleged NEET UG 2026 paper leak case.

Sources said Shivraj Motegaonkar, promoter of RCC (Renukai Chemistry Classes) Career Centre Institute in Latur, was summoned to Pune by a CBI team on Sunday and questioned till Sunday evening. Motegaonkar had earlier faced nearly 11 hours of questioning by the agency on Friday. Sources added that the CBI later issued him a notice asking him to appear in Pune for further interrogation.

The development comes as the CBI intensifies its probe into the alleged NEET UG paper leak network linked to Maharashtra’s Latur district. Arrested accused Professor PV Kulkarni, who allegedly worked with the National Testing Agency (NTA), also belongs to Latur and was picked up from his residence in the district before his arrest.

Local sources claimed that Motegaonkar and Kulkarni knew each other and had reportedly fallen out a few years ago before reconciling recently.

Meanwhile, another CBI team reached Motegaonkar’s office in Latur on Sunday and conducted fresh searches. The team reportedly scanned electronic devices and systems, including computers, laptops and iPads at the RCC Institute premises.

According to sources, a complaint had alleged that RCC Institute’s mock NEET question papers contained several questions that later appeared in the actual NEET UG 2026 examination. A video uploaded on social media by Motegaonkar himself allegedly showed him asking students how many questions from his mock paper had appeared in the actual examination, to which students responded positively.

RCC Institute operates around seven branches across Maharashtra and caters to NEET, JEE and CET aspirants. Sources claim that nearly 40,000 students take admission in the coaching network every year for Classes 11 and 12 preparation. Based on the average annual fee of Rs 50,000 to Rs 65,000 per student, sources estimated the institute’s annual turnover to be well above Rs 100 crore. The estimate could increase further if admissions from branches in other districts are also included.

The CBI had also conducted searches on Saturday at the residence of a businessman based in Nanded. The allegation against the businessman is that he purchased the NEET question paper for his daughter for Rs 5 lakh. The searches concluded on Saturday evening before the agency team moved to Latur and carried out another round of searches at the RCC Institute office on Sunday.

Sources indicated that some more suspects from Maharashtra’s Latur district could also come under the scanner in the coming days.

Motegaonkar started Renukai Chemistry Centre (RCC) in Latur in 1999 with just 10 students. Over the years, the institute expanded to seven districts of Maharashtra. Former students and staff claimed that the coaching network now has around 20,000 students and a turnover exceeding Rs 100 crore. Apart from entrance exam coaching for JEE, NEET and CET, the institute has also established hostel facilities, institute towers and multiple branches across Latur and other parts of Maharashtra.
