Adelaide weather forecast for Wednesday May 13th and the days ahead

Adelaide is set for a fairly calm couple of days before a wetter stretch rolls in for the back half of the week, with showers building from Friday and cooler, cloudier conditions hanging around into early next week.

For today, the city can expect cloud to clear through the day, leaving a mild afternoon top of 24 degrees. Easterly winds around 15 to 20 km/h will keep things comfortable, and while there’s only a slight chance of rain, most metro areas should stay dry. Tomorrow follows a similar pattern, with a sunny start and mostly fine conditions for much of the day before a slight chance of a late shower. Adelaide is again heading for a top of 24 degrees after an overnight low of 15.

The bigger change arrives on Friday, when the city shifts into a much wetter pattern. Showers are expected to increase through the afternoon and evening, with a very high chance of rain and possible falls of 3 to 15mm. Temperatures will stay around 24 degrees, but the day is likely to feel greyer and more unsettled as northeasterly winds ease and then swing back around from the north.

Saturday looks cooler and damper, with cloudy skies and more showers, especially in the morning. There’s also the chance of a thunderstorm about the northern suburbs in the afternoon, so it’s worth keeping an eye on conditions if you’re heading out. The maximum drops to 21 degrees after a low of 14, making it the coolest day of the current forecast period so far.

That run of showery weather doesn’t clear in a hurry. Sunday stays cloudy with a high chance of showers and a top of 20 degrees, while Monday remains partly cloudy with the chance of a shower or two developing later in the day. Tuesday continues in a similar vein, with a few showers still on the cards and temperatures holding around 20 degrees.

Across regional South Australia, the broader pattern is also becoming more active. Patchy morning fog is affecting parts of the west and areas on and east of the ranges today, while isolated showers are developing east of around Coober Pedy and increasing to scattered showers in the northeast. There is also the chance of thunderstorms in the northeast and central districts today, with that risk lingering in the far northeast on Thursday and returning more broadly into Friday and Saturday as a trough moves across the state.

Rainfall totals through to the end of Saturday are mostly expected to stay modest, between 1 and 5mm, though parts of the North East Pastoral and central districts could see 5 to 15mm, with isolated falls up to 40mm possible under thunderstorms. Temperatures across the state are generally near average, a little warmer in the south at first, before slipping back to near or below average by Saturday as a southerly change pushes in. For coastal waters off Adelaide, marine conditions remain relatively manageable, with seas below 1 metre through Saturday, though shower chances increase sharply from Friday.

Happy Wednesday!
