Celebrity hairstylist Florian Hurel agrees, noting that the current mood around bangs is subtlety over rigidity. “Right now, bangs are all about softness and movement. Nothing too structured or heavy,” he says. “What we believe in is personalised fringes. It’s about what works for your face shape, your lifestyle, how many ways they can be styled in and how you wear your hair every day.”
What face shape suits bangs?
The short answer: almost all of them, if the style is right. “The foundation of great bangs lies in understanding your face shape,” says Sakpal. “Oval faces can carry off most styles with ease, while round faces benefit from elongating shapes like curtain or side-swept bangs. Square faces can use softer, wispy fringes to balance angular features and heart-shaped faces are complemented by brow-grazing or side-swept styles that offset a wider forehead. For longer face shapes, fuller, blunt bangs can help visually shorten proportions, making them one of the most transformative fringe choices,” he explains.
Bangs can also work across textures, but require a tailored approach. As Yashwant explains, straight hair allows for more precision, while wavy hair works best with softer, more flexible fringes. “Curly hair is the most interesting. You can get incredible results, but you need to understand shrinkage and movement. Bangs should never be copied; they need to be customised.”
What to consider before getting bangs?
Bangs may look effortless, but they come with upkeep. Regular trims every 2–4 weeks are essential to keep them looking intentional. Your lifestyle matters too: humidity, workouts or rushed mornings can make daily styling more demanding.
Daily maintenance plays a bigger role than most expect. “The key is to dry your bangs properly and use minimal product, especially in humid weather,” says Yashwant. “Blow-dry them on medium heat right after a shower while brushing through; this helps prevent frizz. Avoid heavy styling products, they weigh the fringe down.”
Hair texture is another key factor; straight hair holds shape easily, while wavy or curly textures require a more tailored cutting and styling approach. “Bangs rarely look their best without some styling,” Sakpal adds. The goal is to choose a fringe that not only looks good at the salon, but fits seamlessly into your routine.
