Awful experience, says Supriya Sule after vehicle rams into her car on highway

NCP(SP) leader Supriya Sule on Saturday said a car rammed into her vehicle while she was travelling from Pune to Mumbai, adding that she was safe as she was wearing a seatbelt.

The Baramati Lok Sabha MP was travelling on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway when the incident took place.

“Hello, while driving from Pune to Mumbai, a car suddenly rammed into my vehicle. It’s not just about how you drive — reckless driving by others can also put lives at risk. Fortunately, I was wearing a seatbelt and we are all completely safe. But it was a frightening moment when the car hit us from the side. Road safety is extremely important,” she said in a social media post, while also sharing the registration number of the vehicle involved.

While travelling from Pune to Mumbai today, I had an awful experience on the highway when vehicle GJ13CF5257 rammed into my car from the side due to reckless driving. Thankfully, everyone is safe.

She added that such incidents are a stark reminder that overspeeding and negligence on roads can endanger countless lives. Urging people to wear seatbelts, remain alert and drive responsibly, she said collective caution was essential to make highways safer for everyone.

Sule has often spoken about road safety and the importance of wearing seatbelts, particularly after losing her friend, industrialist Cyrus Mistry, in a car accident in September 2022.

Speaking to a media channel after the accident, she had said the tragedy reinforced important lessons about road safety. Sule had remarked that Mistry, who once headed the Tata Group, might have survived had he been wearing a rear seatbelt. “I will wear a belt in the rear seat too,” she had said.

Following the accident, the government tightened enforcement of rules related to wearing rear seatbelts.
