Adam Yates will lead UAE Team Emirates-XRG at the 109th Giro d’Italia, as the Abu Dhabi-backed team begins its first Grand Tour campaign of the season.
The race starts in Bulgaria on Friday and finishes in Rome on May 31.
UAE Team Emirates-XRG said they will target the general classification and stage wins across the three-week race.
Yates is expected to carry the team’s hopes in the mountains. The British rider brings experience from previous Grand Tours and arrives after winning O Gran Camiño earlier this season.
The team said Yates has completed a strong training camp and enters the Giro with confidence in the squad around him.
The release named seven riders in the line-up: Yates, Igor Arrieta, Mikkel Bjerg, Jhonatan Narváez, Marc Soler, Jan Christen and António Morgado.
Christen and Morgado are set for their first Grand Tour appearances.
The Giro will offer UAE Team Emirates-XRG an early test of their depth, with the team looking to stay in contention overall while also chasing chances on individual stages.
