The ruling BJP in Tripura on Monday celebrated the party’s win in West Bengal and Assam as well as a convincing victory in the by-election to the Dharmanagar assembly constituency in north Tripura. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, his ministerial colleagues and party leaders participated in a victory procession in Agartala.
The saffron party retained the Dharmanagar seat with its candidate Jahar Chakraborti defeating his trailing candidate Amitabha Datta of CPI(M) by over 18,000 votes. Chakraborti received 24,009 votes in the multi-corner contest.
