The ghost with the most is officially heading for Adelaide, with the eight-time Tony Award-nominated Beetlejuice The Musical set to haunt the Festival Theatre from October 2026.
Michael Cassel Group, Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures and Langley Park Productions have confirmed the Broadway hit will arrive at Adelaide Festival Centre from 10 October 2026, giving South Australian musical theatre fans a chance to see one of the wildest stage shows to come out of New York in recent years. Tickets go on sale this Thursday 7 May.
Based on Tim Burton’s 1988 cult film, Beetlejuice The Musical follows Lydia Deetz, a strange and unusual teenager with a fascination for death, whose new home happens to be haunted by a recently deceased couple and a striped, chaotic demon with absolutely no respect for boundaries.
When Lydia calls on Beetlejuice to scare away her insufferable parents, things quickly spiral into a full supernatural circus, complete with exorcism, a terrified girl scout and a trip into the netherworld.
The Australian connection is a major one, with music and lyrics by Eddie Perfect, whose work on the production earned him a Tony Award nomination.
“Beetlejuice is one of those shows that’s equal parts wild fun and unexpected heart, and I’m thrilled to bring it to Adelaide. I’ve always had a special connection to this city, it feels familiar and creatively fearless. Adelaide audiences have a deep appreciation for comedy, and a seasoned taste for quality musical theatre, so I can’t wait to share this wonderfully outrageous musical with you.”
Broadway star Andy Karl will reprise his role as Beetlejuice for the Adelaide season, bringing the show’s signature chaos, comedy and larger-than-life energy to the Festival Theatre stage.
“Beetlejuice is one of the funniest, wildest shows I’ve ever had the joy of performing. I’ve heard so many great things about the incredible arts and festival scene in Adelaide, and now it’s time to stir up a little mischief together. I can’t wait to bring the chaos and comedy of Beetlejuice your way”
Producer Michael Cassel said Adelaide audiences should be ready for a Broadway show with a wickedly irreverent edge.
“Adelaide audiences are going to fall hard for the chaos, humour and heart of Beetlejuice The Musical. It’s bold, unapologetic and gloriously entertaining — delivering the prestige of Broadway with a wickedly irreverent edge, powered by the brilliant music and lyrics of Eddie Perfect.”
The production comes with a major creative team, directed by two-time Tony Award-winner Alex Timbers, with choreography by Connor Gallagher, a book by Scott Brown and Anthony King, scenic design by David Korins, costume design by William Ivey Long and special effects by Jeremy Chernick.
For Adelaide, it is another major musical theatre moment for the Festival Theatre, and one that feels tailor-made for audiences who like their stage shows big, funny, strange and completely unhinged.
BEETLEJUICE THE MUSICAL will play Festival Theatre, Adelaide Festival Centre, from 10 October 2026. Tickets go on sale Thursday 7 May.
