Shimla viral video: ASI suspended after taxi driver kicked during VVIP movement

A video from Shimla that has gone viral has put the spotlight on police conduct after an officer allegedly kicked a taxi driver during a VVIP movement on Friday. The incident, which occurred during a dispute over parked vehicles, has sparked outrage online and prompted swift action from authorities. The officer has been suspended, and a probe has been ordered.

As per reports, a taxi and a motorcycle were parked along the roadside when a police officer reached the spot and asked the taxi driver to remove both vehicles. The driver reportedly told the officer that he could not move both at the same time. This led to an argument, during which the policeman allegedly threatened to issue a challan for violating traffic rules.

As tensions escalated, the taxi driver began recording the interaction on his phone. In the video, he can be seen asking the officer his name after looking at his nameplate. Moments later, the police officer, identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Pyar Singh, allegedly kicked the driver. The clip has since circulated widely online, drawing criticism and sparking debate over the use of excessive force by law enforcement.

The video appears to show the officer using disproportionate force against the driver, even as the situation remained largely verbal. The incident has triggered public outrage, with many questioning whether such actions align with standard policing practices.

Taking swift cognisance of the matter, Shimla Police suspended the accused ASI with immediate effect. Confirming the action, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Headquarters Abhishek said the department follows a “zero tolerance” policy towards misconduct and abuse of authority. He added that the suspension was necessary to ensure a fair and impartial inquiry.

Police officials also said departmental disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against the officer. Authorities emphasised that any negligence or misuse of power will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Reiterating its commitment to professional, lawful and humane policing, Shimla Police said strict action would be taken in cases where officers deviate from established standards. The department added that maintaining public trust and upholding the rule of law remain top priorities as the investigation continues.
