What a night at the Parc des Princes. PSG edged past Bayern Munich 5-4 in an absolutely bonkers Champions League semi-final first leg that had everything you could possibly want from a football match.
Nine goals flew in, seven different players found the net, and the defending champions now hold the slimmest of advantages heading to Bavaria next week.
It was also the highest-scoring semi-final in Champions League history, and the joint-most goals in a semi-final including the European Cup era with Rangers 3-6 Eintracht Frankfurt in 1959/60.
Both sides came into this as the tournament’s most prolific attacking forces, and they certainly lived up to that billing in front of a raucous Parisian crowd who’d set the scene with Napoleonic displays and thunderous noise from the first whistle.

The Germans struck first when Harry Kane slotted home from the penalty spot after Luis Diaz was brought down by William Pacho – his 58th goal of a remarkable season.
Doing so, the England captain also made his own history – taking a record off Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.
But PSG hit back brilliantly. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia collected possession on the left, shifted onto his right foot and curled a gorgeous effort into the far corner.
Joao Neves then nodded the hosts ahead with a glancing header from a corner.
Michael Olise, who’d been tormenting defenders all evening, restored parity with a stunning strike after dancing past multiple opponents.

Then came the drama. Deep into first-half stoppage time, Alphonso Davies was penalised for handball after Dembele’s cross struck his arm. Swiss official Sandro Scharer checked the monitor and pointed to the spot, with Dembele coolly dispatching to make it 3-2 at the break.
The second period somehow managed to match the first for sheer entertainment.
PSG looked to have killed off the tie when Kvaratskhelia guided home his second of the night after being left unmarked at the far post from Achraf Hakimi’s delivery.
Dembele then made it 5-2, finishing smartly at the near post to give the hosts a commanding three-goal cushion.
But Bayern, already Bundesliga champions and chasing a Treble, refused to lie down.
Dayot Upamecano flicked in from a Joshua Kimmich free-kick before Kane played a sublime pass for Diaz to finish into the far corner – a goal that survived an offside review.
The single-goal advantage means everything is still to play for when these two meet again in Munich on Wednesday, 6 May.

Bayern arrived in Paris having already wrapped up the German title and with dreams of a Treble still very much alive.
Vincent Kompany watched from the press box due to suspension, with Englishman Aaron Danks taking charge on the touchline.

The winners of this tie will head to Budapest for the final, where either Arsenal or Atletico Madrid await – those two sides meet in Wednesday’s other semi-final.
After a night like this, nobody will want to miss the second leg.
