Will Cleveland trade Dillon Gabriel?

The Cleveland Browns grabbed Dillon Gabriel as their first quarterback selection in 2025’s draft. But Shedeur Sanders gained steam in the QB room including handling first team reps at voluntary minicamp. Now Taylen Green of Arkansas enters the picture via the 2026 NFL Draft.

Will this mean the Browns are soon orchestrating a trade involving Gabriel? Signs point to the ’25 third rounder as the odd man out. Especially after Gabriel lost his starting QB job to Sanders late in the 2025 season.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter doused that rumor in cold water, though, after the Green pick.

“Despite drafting QB Taylen Green today, the Browns say they have no plans to trade QB Dillon Gabriel,” Schefter posted on the social media website X, formerly Twitter.

Green comes off as a depth piece at No. 182 overall in the sixth round. Yet presents a high ceiling.

The Razorbacks star and former Boise State QB1 turned heads by running a 4.36 time in his 40-yard dash. NFL Network insider Lance Zierlein liked his game on the field.

“A long, rangy, dual-threat quarterback with upside, Green’s ability to generate explosive plays as a runner and passer helped keep his offense afloat,” Zierlein wrote first in his pre-draft evaluation.

However, “In-game consistency has been a sticking point, though.”

Green didn’t deliver the best production at both stops. This despite leading the Broncos to the Mountain West Conference title in 2023.

But he hands new head coach Todd Monken a new dual-threat to work with. Monken coached up Lamar Jackson from 2023 to 2025 including turning to his legs. Green, though, emerges as the fourth QB with Gabriel starting to lose ground.
