BSAK alumna earns Wales Six Nations call

Catherine Richards’ rugby path has taken her from Dubai 7s to the Women’s Six Nations.

The former British School Al Khubairat pupil has been selected in the Wales squad for their Round 3 match against England at Ashton Gate.

Richards was part of BSAK’s first girls rugby team, a group that helped set an early marker for the school’s girls rugby programme. In 2016, that side won the U19 Girls Gulf tournament at the Dubai 7s.

Nearly a decade later, Richards is now involved at Test level with Wales.

Her selection gives BSAK and the UAE rugby community another reason to follow the Women’s Six Nations closely. It also adds another line to a growing story around girls rugby in the region, where school and club pathways have helped more players stay in the game beyond their teenage years.

The Wales match against England will be played at Ashton Gate, with Richards named in the squad for one of the tournament’s biggest fixtures.
