DISNEY+ launches budget plan while raising premium prices

Disney+ has introduced a lower-cost ad-supported tier in Australia while increasing prices on its existing subscription plans.

Disney+ has introduced a new ad-supported subscription tier in Australia and New Zealand, marking a significant shift in its local pricing strategy while increasing the cost of its existing plans.

The streaming service confirmed the launch of its “Standard with Ads” option from April 21, 2026, offering a lower-priced entry point for viewers alongside revised pricing across its broader subscription lineup.

The new plan is available for $9.99 per month, sitting below the existing Standard and Premium tiers.

The ad-supported tier includes advertising during movies and television programs and does not support offline downloads. Despite this, subscribers retain access to the same content library spanning Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, Hulu, FX, 20th Century Studios and ESPN.

At the same time, Disney+ has increased pricing on its ad-free tiers. The Standard plan now costs $17.99 per month or $179.99 annually, while the Premium plan has risen to $24.99 per month or $249.99 annually.

The Standard tier continues to offer ad-free viewing and download functionality, with streaming capped at Full HD (1080p) and two concurrent streams. The Premium option includes 4K UHD and HDR video, Dolby Atmos audio and up to four simultaneous streams.

The Walt Disney Company Australia and New Zealand Senior Vice President and Managing Director Kylie Watson-Wheeler said the move was designed to broaden access to the platform.

“We’re excited to offer Standard with Ads to our audiences to enjoy our world-class films, TV series and ESPN sports programming on Disney+ with greater choice and flexibility.

The ad-supported plan also provides a premium platform for advertisers and partners to engage our highly attentive audiences alongside our iconic content.”

Coinciding with the launch, Disney+ also unveiled a new Hulu marketing campaign featuring Thomas Brodie-Sangster, promoting the platform’s broader entertainment offering. The campaign highlights titles including The Testaments, FX’s Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette and Tell Me Lies.
