Carlton’s Elijah Hollands has been admitted to hospital in the wake of his mental health issue from last Thursday night’s game against Collingwood.
The Blues on Monday night released a statement saying the 23-year-old was under medical care.
“The Carlton Football Club can confirm that Elijah Hollands has been admitted to hospital this evening,” the statement read.

“While the club acknowledges the public’s interest, it again asks that the privacy of Elijah and his family be respected.”
Hollands had already been ruled out of this weekend’s clash against Fremantle in Perth, with Carlton chief executive Graham Wright saying on Sunday that the club’s top priority was the health and wellbeing of the young player.
“We’re dealing with a mental health issue, with what we’re dealing with right at the moment,” Wright said on Sunday.
“We’re in the process of going through all the circumstances leading up to the game, two or three weeks prior to the game.
“Our primary focus remains on caring for Elijah, making sure he continues to receive the medical and wellbeing support he needs.”
The AFL has requested a review from Carlton around the circumstances of what happened with Hollands during last Thursday night’s match.
Last year, Hollands twice took personal leave from Carlton, later revealing he had been battling mental ill-health and issues with alcohol.
The former Gold Coast player, who turns 24 on Saturday, was delisted by the Blues at the end of last season, despite having a year to run on his contract.
But Hollands was invited to Carlton training over summer, impressing enough to win his spot back on the list.
He has played all six games this season, averaging 18.4 possessions before his concerning night against the Magpies.
