We Are Aliens Movie Reveals Teaser Trailer and Visual, Main Cast

A teaser trailer and teaser visual for the We Are Aliens (Wareware wa Uchujin) anime film have been released, with both hinting at an uneasy component to the two main characters’ relationship, The teaser becomes tense in its second half, while the visual’s social media caption talks of the leads’ daily life slowly starting to become warped.

The synopsis describes one of the main characters, Tsubasa, as being worried about normalcy, while the other, Taro Akatsuki, is a “special existence.” The two meet in a countryside town during the Heisei era, but their relationship undergoes a big shift after a certain event. “Is this the story of their youth? Or is it a memory they want to wipe away?” ends the description.

Along with the new previews, it was announced that Ryota Bando and Amane Okayama are the lead voice actors for We Are Aliens, while Yaffle is the music composer. Additionally, the movie will be part of the 79th Cannes festival’s Director’s Fortnight lineup.

We Are Aliens is directed by Kohei Kadowaki, who also has planner, scriptwriter, storyboard artist, and editor credits. Kadowaki was previously involved with music videos for YOASOBI’s “Comet,” the Ayase ft. Hatsune Miku song “Yokubari,” and KAF’s “Sore o Sekai to Iun dane.” 

The NOTHING NEW film label, which was founded in 2022, is credited with planning, production (the creative/actual making process kind), and production (the business/finance kind). MIYU PRODUCTIONS is credited with cooperation.

We Are Aliens will be released in Japan this year. It had a successful crowdfunding campaign on Motion Gallery where it raised ~9.6 million yen out of its 8 million yen goal. The crowdfund page mentions 2027 as a planned international release date.
