US special envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s advisor (and son-in-law) Jared Kushner are staying in Islamabad to continue the high-stakes negotiations under Pakistan’s mediation.
The presence of senior US figures in the capital comes as diplomatic efforts enter a sensitive stage. So far, no definitive deal has been reached as both sides are trying to narrow down gaps on key regional issues, including security arrangements, sanctions relief, and maritime stability in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to multiple international reports, the Islamabad negotiations have already gone through marathon sessions involving direct and indirect exchanges between US and Iranian officials. Pakistani authorities are facilitating the process as a neutral mediator.
US Vice President JD Vance has already departed Pakistan for Washington while Witkoff and Kushner are staying for more talks.
Earlier discussions included written exchanges and technical-level meetings.
So far, no final agreement has been reached with both sides still holding firm on core demands. The process remains fragile but more clarity is expected in the coming days.
Tensions linked to Lebanon are also part of the negotiations.
The Islamabad talks were designed by Pakistan to bring both the US and Iran to the negotiating table following the Gulf War earlier this year.
Pakistan has positioned itself as a key facilitator for what has been described as the most significant US-Iran direct engagement in decades.
While hopes for a breakthrough remain uncertain, the presence of Trump’s close aides in Islamabad suggests that both sides are still exploring possible compromises.
