Quetta Gladiators have issued a key update on fast bowler Ahmed Daniyal ahead of their next fixture against RawalPindiz in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11.
In a statement, the team management confirmed that Daniyal has been advised to take complete rest for one week after sustaining an injury during the Lahore leg of the tournament.
“Quetta Gladiators’ fast bowler Ahmed Daniyal, who could not complete the match played in Lahore due to a hamstring injury, has been advised by the doctor to rest for one week,” the statement said.
Earlier, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed that the 28-year-old had sustained an injury to his right hamstring and was taken to a nearby hospital for further assessment.
“Quetta Gladiators’ Ahmed Daniyal suffered a right hamstring injury while completing a third run on the fifth ball of the last over of their innings. He has been taken to hospital for further scans,” the PCB said in a statement.
The board added that his participation in the remainder of the match would depend on the extent of the injury and clearance from the Gladiators’ medical team.
With doctors now advising a one-week rest, Daniyal is unlikely to be available for Quetta Gladiators’ April 10 fixture against RawalPindiz in Karachi.
However, he has a good chance of returning for the April 15 match against Peshawar Zalmi in Faisalabad, depending on his recovery and medical clearance.
The incident occurred on the penultimate delivery of the Gladiators’ innings when Daniyal slipped while attempting to complete a third run. He was unable to continue and had to be carried off the field.
He was subsequently ruled out of the second innings, dealing a major blow to Quetta as Multan Sultans capitalized during the run chase.
Chasing a target of 167, the Sultans remained in control, with Quetta missing a key bowling option. The injury disrupted the team’s bowling plans and reduced their ability to apply pressure in crucial moments of the match.
