Red Line Service Changes
Listen up, Red Line Commuters! Through about April 9, if you’re on the Braintree branch and traveling after 8 p.m., you’ll need to hop off and transfer to an Alewife–Ashmont train to keep it moving past JFK/UMass. After that, the roles reverse: Ashmont riders will be the ones transferring to Alewife–Braintree trains through roughly April 26. Also worth noting—expect longer commutes and fewer trains during this stretch. Plan ahead… and maybe pack a little extra patience. Good luck out there!
The Return of Street Cleaning
It’s that time of year again! Birds are chirping. It’s staying light out later, and the street sweepers will be cleaning your neighborhood streets starting on April 1st. Please note that parking restrictions related to street cleaning begin this week. A schedule and information is available here! Southie residents can also register for “No Tow,” a service that emails them when their street is scheduled for cleaning. That’s so helpful! This also applies to DCR and Day Blvd., Columbia Road, and Old Colony Ave. So take notice, Southie! Watch the signs!

Head Island Causeway Closure
Beginning on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, and continuing through Monday, April 13, 2026, the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) will close the Head Island Causeway between the Pleasure Bay parking lot and Castle Island in the South Boston from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. to accommodate resurfacing work. Pedestrian traffic will be detoured to William J. Day Boulevard
