Udaipur Man Builds Stove That Cooks for 25 Using 2 Kg Wood

No gas at home? No problem.

This stove can cook food for 25 people in just 30 minutes. Known as the Vishwaguru Chulha, it is designed to boil, fry, and bake — all at the same time.

Dal cooks as rotis bake above, while on the side, one can grill, fry, or even make pizza. The multi-functional design allows several dishes to be prepared simultaneously, making it both efficient and practical.

The man behind this innovation isn’t an engineer. Meet Sher Khan from Udaipur — a Class 8 dropout and an iron craftsman.

What sets this stove apart is not just its functionality, but also its efficiency.

He built this chulha 27 years ago after observing women spend hours in the heat of the kitchen, cooking baatis and dal separately. Determined to find a better way, he began working on a solution. Over the years, he continued refining his design, eventually securing a patent for it in 2017.

What sets this stove apart is not just its functionality, but also its efficiency. While traditional stoves require around 10 kg of wood, the Vishwaguru Chulha uses just 2 kg, producing far less smoke in the process.

From dhabas to small businesses, the stove has found multiple applications. It is not just a cooking tool, but a practical innovation that addresses everyday challenges.

Today, with more than 1,000 stoves in use, this simple yet effective design could offer an answer to India’s fuel concerns.

Because sometimes, the biggest solutions do not come from high-tech labs. They come from the smallest workshops.
