The upcoming Eiga Chiikawa: Ningyo no Shima no Himitsu (Chiikawa the Movie: Secret of the Mermaid Island) has received a new preview, which expands on the previous teaser with 30 more seconds of footage.
The anime film will begin screening in Japan on July 24 (JST).
Chiikawa was created by Nagano, beginning life as the character of a webcomic on X (formerly Twitter). Eiga Chiikawa: Ningyo no Shima no Himitsu is based on the Siren Arc storyline that was originally posted on X from March 2023 to November 2023.
Beyond the comic, Chiikawa’s presence extends to social media and LINE stamps, goods, and a Doga Kobo-produced short anime. The latter began in 2022 and has over 300 episodes. The character won the Grand Prix at the Japanese Character Award in 2022, 2024, and 2025.
