Arsenal travelled to Sunderland hoping to extend their lead over Manchester City, who face Liverpool on Sunday.
Aston Villa went to Bournemouth seeking a returning to winning ways after a shock home defeat to Brentford last time out.
Wolves hosted Chelsea, who were determined to secure all three points following their Carabao Cup defeat to Arsenal in midweek.
Burnley faced West Ham in a crunch relegation six-pointer.
And Fulham and Everton were also in action at Craven Cottage.

Arsenal went into their clash with Sunderland knowing victory over the Black Cats would see them go nine points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.
And though it wasn’t pretty, the Gunners were able to get the job done.
Martin Zubimendi put the hosts ahead with a brilliant shot from the edge of the box, with Viktor Gyokeres proceeding to score twice after coming off the bench to replace Gabriel Jesus.
Wolves 1-3 Chelsea

Chelsea have enjoyed a positive start to life under Liam Rosenior, two defeats to Arsenal in the Carabao Cup aside.
And the Blues continued their charge towards Champions League football next season with a 3-1 victory away at Wolves.
Cole Palmer netted an impressive first-half hat-trick, with Tolu Arokodare’s effort in the 54th minute a mere consolation.
Bournemouth 1-1 Aston Villa
Aston Villa’s title tilt has taken a hit in recent weeks.
And their hopes of Champions League football next term have suffered another blow after dropping points against Bournemouth.
Morgan Rogers put Villa ahead in the 22nd minute after good work from Jadon Sancho, only for Rayan to level for the hosts and ultimately secure them a point.
Burnley 0-2 West Ham

Burnley now look doomed to be relegated after losing at home to West Ham.
The Hammers, who lost 3-2 to Chelsea in dramatic circumstances last week, won courtesy of goals from Crysencio Summerville and Valentin Castellanos.
They’re now just three points from safety after Nottingham Forest’s defeat to Leeds on Friday.
Fulham 1-2 Everton
Everton came from behind to secure a big 2-1 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage.
The home side were on course for victory following an own goal from Vitalii Mykolenko in the 18th minute.
But Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall levelled for the Toffees before another own goal, this time from Bernd Leno, gave them victory.
