Led by rising star Kerdina Lamour, who scored twice, Les Grenadières controlled the match from start to finish. Striker Keisha Gué also found the net twice, while Kyrah Lormil and Adjani Mondestin added a goal apiece to complete the rout.
The convincing victory marked a confident first step for Haiti in the regional qualifying round, drawing immediate celebration from Haitian fans at home and across the diaspora.
“Congrats, ladies, good start,” Lesly François commented on Facebook. “ Everything was good technically, the shooting was good, the players had vision. Well done, let’s keep this up, you girls are the future of Haiti’s women’s soccer.”
Lamour, an attacking midfielder, once again lived up to expectations. One of her goals came on a solo run that highlighted the skill she has shown at multiple youth levels. She previously featured with Haiti’s U-15 and U-20 teams, and Sunday’s performance reinforced her growing reputation.
“She confirmed that she is the future of Haiti’s women’s soccer,” Merlyne, a sports analyst, posted on her Facebook account. “She’s a crack.”
Another standout, despite not scoring, was right winger Léa Jacques. The Montreal Academy player impressed with her movement, communication, and decision-making, quickly earning praise from fans and analysts.
“Léa Jacques, number 14, became the darling of the Haitian fans after the U17 women’s national team’s first match against Antigua,” sports reporter Caleb Jephté Pierre posted on Facebook. “Highly communicative, she demonstrated intelligence in most of her decision-making on the right flank.”
Gué also turned heads, scoring a goal and assisting on another. Captain and midfielder Miya put up a strong performance as well, dominating from the middle of the pitch.
Les Grenadières’are set to play their next U-17 World Cup qualifying game against Saint-Lucia on Jan. 27. The match will take place once again at Rignaal ‘Jean’ Francisca Stadium.
